Medicare Options
The Parts of Medicare
There are four common Medicare parts: Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D. Part A and Part B make up what is called Original Medicare.
- Part A: Hospital Insurance
Covers inpatient care at a hospital, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care and limited home health care services. - Part B: Medical Insurance
Covers doctor visits, outpatient hospital services, preventive care, lab tests and certain prescription drugs that are medically necessary.
Original Medicare doesn't cover everything. That's why there are other Medicare parts and plan options that provide additional coverage:
- Part C: Medicare Advantage Plans
Combines Original Medicare with additional benefits like vision, dental and hearing. - Part D: Prescription Drug Plans
These are standalone prescription drug coverage plans that can be added to Original Medicare or may be included in a Medicare Advantage Plan. - Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans
These plans help pay deductibles, copays and more that Original Medicare doesn't cover.
These plans help pay costs not covered by Parts A and B, such as your copays, deductible and coinsurance. These sometimes are called Medigap plans.
See Our PlansMA plans offer a more comprehensive alternative to Original Medicare. They include the same benefits, plus additional benefits Original Medicare doesn't cover and prescription drug coverage.
Learn About MAThese plans help you save money on prescriptions. You can purchase a PDP when you have a Medicare Supplement, but you don't need it when you have an MA plan.
